What Happens to Your Things After Pickup

Handing your belongings to strangers and watching the van door close is an act of trust. You should not have to hope it is justified — you should be able to see it. So here is, step by step, what actually happens to your things after we pick them up.

Step 1 — A person receives them, not a process

Pickup is done by people in dingx colours who know that “a box of kitchen things” and “the box with grandmother’s porcelain” are not the same box, even if they weigh the same. Fragile items are wrapped and secured. You tell us what matters; we treat it accordingly.

Step 2 — Every item gets an identity

Before anything is stored, it is photographed and inventoried. Each item — not just each box — gets an entry: picture, description, and a tracked identity so that it never becomes anonymous freight. This is the moment your things stop being “stuff in storage” and become a catalogue you own.

This is also where we differ most from a classic storage unit. There, the completeness of your memory is the inventory system. With dingx, the inventory is explicit, visual, and always available.

Step 3 — You see everything, any time

Your inventory lives in the dingx app. Open it and you see every item we hold for you, with its photo, whenever you want — from the sofa, from the office, from holiday. No appointment, no gate code, no “access hours”.

Your inventory data is stored in Switzerland, and it belongs to you just as much as the objects do.

Step 4 — Stored securely, in Switzerland

Your things are kept in a secure, access-controlled facility in Switzerland — dry, clean, and handled only by people who are supposed to handle them. No anonymous container yard, no forgotten steel box.

And to say it clearly once more: your things remain your property at every moment. We manage them; we never own them. There is no small print that changes this.

Step 5 — They come back when you want them

Retrieval is a request, not an excavation. Pick the item in the app, tell us when, and it comes back to your door. You never need to remember where something is — that is our job now. You only need to remember that you own it, and the app remembers even that for you.

Step 6 — And when you’re ready for more than storage

Because every item has an identity, it can do more than sit still. When you decide an object’s time with you is over, we help with its next chapter — selling, lending, donating, or responsible disposal as the last resort. Nothing has to end in a container just because it left your apartment.

That is the whole journey: a person picks it up, a catalogue keeps it visible, a Swiss facility keeps it safe, and everything returns — or moves on — exactly when you decide. Trust should be checkable. Ours is: item by item, photo by photo, in your pocket.
