We Store Stories, Not Just Objects

A teddy bear is not a plush toy. Ask any parent who has tried to replace one.

It is the smell of a nursery, the survivor of two hundred bedtimes, the only witness to a fever night in winter. Its material value is a few francs. Its real value doesn’t fit in a currency.

Homes are full of objects like this. The crib, kept for the next child — or the next family. The bike from last summer, the one that carried you along the lake on the best day of the year. The suitcase from the trip that changed your plans. A box of photographs nobody has digitised, because holding them is the point.

When people say they need storage, this is rarely what they mean at first. They mean square metres. But hand someone a box and watch how they pack it, and the truth comes out: what goes to storage is almost never junk. Junk gets thrown away. What people store is what they cannot bring themselves to lose.

Why “storage” is the wrong word

The storage industry talks about units, volumes and access hours — as if the things inside were freight. We think the language reveals the problem: when you treat objects as freight, you handle them like freight.

We started dingx from the opposite end: if what people entrust to us carries memory, value and potential, then the job is not warehousing. The job is care, with three promises attached:

Nothing disappears. Every item is photographed and inventoried at pickup. Your things don’t vanish behind a steel door — you can open your phone and see everything you own, any time, wherever it currently is.

Everything stays yours. We manage your things; we never own them. Managed is not owned — that distinction is the foundation of the whole service, and it never blurs.

Everything can come back. The teddy bear returns when the child asks for it. The crib returns when the second line turns blue. The bike returns in May. Storage with us is not an ending — it is an intermission, for exactly as long as the story needs.

The attention things deserve

“We take care of it with the attention it deserves” is an easy sentence to write and a demanding one to operate. It means a person — not a conveyor belt — receives your things. It means fragile objects are wrapped by hands that know what a family picture frame is. It means the difference between a box and the box with the Christmas decorations your grandmother painted is recorded, visible, and respected.

We won’t pretend this is the cheapest possible way to run a storage service. It is, however, the only way we would want our own things handled — and that is the standard we could live with.
