Move to Simplicity: Why dingx Exists

There is a number nobody in a Swiss city needs explained: the price of a square metre. We pay more for space than for almost anything else in our lives — and then we fill it with things we are not using.

The skis wait eleven months for one week of snow. The crib waits for the next child. The boxes from the last move wait for a decision that never quite gets made. None of this is clutter in the careless sense. Most of it is life, temporarily out of season.

And yet the choices we are offered have barely changed in decades.

The two old answers

When space runs out, you can rent a storage unit: your things disappear behind a steel door, and most people can’t say what’s in there two years later. Storage keeps objects still — it presses pause and charges rent for it.

Or you can let things go. Sometimes that is right. But too often we let go too soon — not because an object has lost its value, but because it has lost its parking spot. The bin is the fastest way to make space, and the most expensive one for everything a thing still carried: usefulness, value, memory.

Between “lock it away” and “throw it away”, there was nothing. That gap is why dingx exists.

Simplicity is not owning less. It is carrying less.

The sculptor Constantin Brâncuși spent his life removing everything inessential from his forms until only the essence remained — not emptiness, essence. That idea gave us our guiding phrase: Move to Simplicity.

Applied to a home, simplicity does not mean owning nothing. It means that what surrounds you is what you are actually living with right now — and that everything else is safe, findable, and ready to come back the moment you need it.

So we built the thing we couldn’t find: one service where moving, storing and managing your things is a single journey instead of three separate problems. We come and pick things up — one pickup, everything else handled. Every item is photographed and inventoried, so you can see everything you own at any time, from your phone. When you want something back, it comes back. And when you decide an object’s next chapter lies elsewhere — sold, lent, donated — we help it get there instead of letting it go to waste.

Your things remain yours at every step. We manage them; we never own them. What changes is only the weight you carry.

Why we start small, and where

dingx is starting in Winterthur — deliberately. Not with a warehouse the size of an airport, but neighbourhood by neighbourhood, with people who hand their things to people. Care does not scale by skipping the human part, and trust is not a feature you ship; it is something you earn one pickup at a time.

That is the whole idea. Space is too expensive to store the past in, and the past is too valuable to throw away. There is a simpler way between the two.
